I have a No 18 head as a spare for my SDL, this came from a 3L motor out of an '86 I parted out long ago. I removed it with injectors, all else complete (lifters, cam, etc).
Will the injectors currently in my No 14 head work in this No 18 head? Or does the 18 have different chambers? I cannot recall the differences between the angled chambers and injectors. Reason for the questions, I am wanting to install some rebuilt injectors into my SDL currently with the 14 head and and them to hopefully work on the 18.

You wouldn't happen to have the VINs from the original vehicles? If so, you might be able to check the part numbers in the EPC.
I'm not sure I can isolate where the differences are (between various head revisions), but, with a comparison between the 300SDL and the 350SDL, the injector 'nozzle holders' have separate part numbers. For the 126.125 (603.961 US) the part # is A0020172821 For the 126.135 (603.970 US) the part # is A0020174021 (replaced by A0030172921) Having a #14 head, I'm inherently curious about differences between configurations (perhaps it's a defense mechanism built into my brain?). I just wish I could provide more useful information, but I haven't found much on the topic

The '86 is long gone. I have the injectors still in the 18 head, so I could just use those injectors and those prechambers then strap it to my current motor.

I believe that one of the differences is the thread pitch on the injector bodies (and, similarly, the prechambers). I don't think that I took any pictures of the injector when I pulled it out, but I believe there are parts numbers stamped on the circumference of some surfaces.
A pretty crude way to check would be to mark the injectors with a piece of tape (which is which), and then compare side by side with a decent pair of calipers (if they're not obviously different). I would just be quite careful not to scratch anything with the calipers. My Mitutoyo set are very hard, and very sharp... Is it as simple as swapping the prechambers (or possible?)? If the two heads are different by the angles of which the injectors sit at, among other things, it seems like the glow plugs may interfere with the different geometry. I apologize for the amount conjecture...
