Adding center brake light
Has anyone added a brake light in the back window and if so where did you connect it?

3rd brake light
See this thread. I did it on my '85 300D; don't know how similar it is to your '83 300SD but it might give you some ideas. Post #9 in the thread has the pictures.

I have added LED style 3rd brak lights directy to the lines for the standard brake lights.
They did not pull nearly the amount of current that a regular bulb does. No problems so far. |

I was thinking of using a w201 3rd brake light unit, since the base of the light fixture is shallow compared to the w124, which is deeper. Once I figure out how to mount the base to the rear deck, installing the 3rd brake light is just like a factory installation for w201, w124 and w126.

My 300D has one that was installed when I bought it. I would have tossed it, but it would leave a mark on the rear deck. It appears to be tied into the left brake light.
