The Science of running Veggie Oil
You want some science, well here it is. Some peer reviewed scientific journal articles about running unheated VO in many types of diesel engine. The pdf attached is a review of many years worth of VO research and has citations for all the articles reviewed. The short story is you can run 20/80 VO/D2 blend unheated in a single tank without excessive engine wear. There were examples were any amount of unheated VO used caused issues, so it's definetly not an option for every diesel engine. And anything above 20/80 mix unheated is not a good idea.
It is actaully quite hard to find scientifc research on running VO. I am a research biologist and have access to a plethora of scientific journals for many disciplines. There are very few on running straight VO heated or unheated. A large majority are on biodiesel. I am still searching though, and will post what I find no matter the results of the article.

That's an experiment done that concludes that up to 40% VO is good to 38*F.

Bio,
Great to see!! If you havent already looked, I put a post on tirebiters thread describing the difference between VO and Bio. When we (me included) stick to proper reports like you have done here, we lift the standard of discussion out of the gutter and this can only increase every ones wisdom and knowledge. "Death in a jug" type comments does no one any good!! Best vanished as it has been. PS Hows the trans? All good I hope!

Good article, however it appears to have been written some time ago as the references are all quite old. I suspect engines behave differently today in light of the higher pressure injection systems and other design changes which are present in more modern diesels. But carry on and find more papers!

So what temp is the 20/80 mix good to?
BTW, what about fuel heaters? My SDL has a factory fuel heater. It heats it up to 160*, I checked with an IR thermometer.
