Slight OT: Turbo Question
Staying within the realm of Mercedes engines:
Does a turbocharger need the exhaust pressure from ALL cylinders? I'm asking this in context of single charging a V8, without excessive manifold fabrication.

Using one Exhaust bank to power the Turbo
will act as a restriction on that side of the engine.
Prognosticating the long term effects of such a setup is so far above my pay grade as to make any other statements by myself Moot.

Single turbo V8 engines typically have the exhaust combined into a single pipe before the turbo, so as to get the full energy into the turbo.
That being said, it's not that bad to design a pair of smaller turbos to work cooperatively, with one on either bank of the engine.

Early 8V71 GM motors often had a single turbo with one exhaust piped around the front. The later ones had twin turbos. Often things we are not to sure about have been tried & solved before. The twin turbo GM runs like a dog if one turbo goes out.
