300td (Hydraulic Line Repair)

Serviced the trannie on my 83 300td last week and noticed a leak up on the front of the motor .A seeping hydraulic line for the rear shock system was the culpriet.Replaced it with a trannie hose and alls good and well .Needed that old fluid changed also ,2 birds as they say.I would hate to see what happens when that pump goes dry .

search here for SLS hose repair.
that hose is a very high pressure hose, standard transmission hose will rupture first load you place on it or first time a tight corner hits you with your foot in the accelerator.
you need to put in some GS6 I think Good year hose from NAPA

Hi
Was it the rubber high pressure hydraulic hose that was leaking? If so be sure to use high pressure (3000psi) hose. The fittings on either end can be changed over and used on a new hose. See a good pictorial by Kerry.

My thread but I'm pretty sure they aren't my pictures. Someone else needs to be thanked for that.
Wanted to add something on the pump running dry. Some members here have run their pumps dry for months on end without any noticeable damage.

is it steel reinforced, 4000PSI hose?
if not, get the GS6 hose.

I agree, read the tutorial and buy the right hose so you have no regrets when on the road. I replaced my hose this way and months later all is well. Love the fact that those fittings can be used over and over again -good luck!

The hose was the one to the resorvoir ,not the high pressure line .Im guessing a real surprise would be in store if Id done the hose you guys mentioned. The smell of oil was coming into the cabin also, couldnt find any oil spots to chase down ,only when I got underneath the car did I spy the oil.

ahhh, no problem then.
however, you should inspect the high pressure hose as well. usually when one hose goes, the other is not far behind.
