96e300d manifold flaps

Hi Guys
At what rpms do the flaps open and if I open removed them would
it help the power of my car going up hills ?

Greg, They open and close to distribute the air flow depending on throttle position, air flow etc. Removing them will actually cause worse performace as there wont be even airflow throughout the manifold.

The shop manual for the 96 model reads as follows:

Idle speed to 2550 plus or minus 100rpms...both flaps should be closed.

From 2550 plus or minus 100rpms, to 3350 plus or minus 100rpms, intake resonance flap opens, and intake manifold resonance flap is closed.

Over 3350 plus or minus 100rpms, both intake resonance and intake manifold flaps are both open.

Adding to what he said further means that MB designed the 606 engine to have 3 engine torque peaks close together, rather than just one. Very clever to maximize performance pre black box car computers

If you "removed them" you would be left with only the last torque peak, so the low or mid range RPM engine performance would, well, to use the technical term, suck!
