Hazet wrenches for 617 valve adj.
I would like ot buy a used set of HAZET wrenches for the adjusting of the valves on my 300D (617).
Does anyone have a set they no longer need and would like to sell?

Used sets come up on eBay; most often minus the 3rd Wrench.
I must have tried to get some on eBay 8 times before I got the 3 wrench set at reaonable price and it took about 1 year to get that. One of the tool companies on eBay is selling 1 short and 1 normal sized Hazet Valve Adjusting Wrench at about $30 less than the 3 wrench set.

I made my own wrenches for the whopping cost of $2, yes TWO DOLLARS.
Go to a pawn shop buy 2 14mm wrenches. Put them in a vise and heat them till their red hot and bend them to where you want them. Can do both wrenches in less than 1/2 hour. Danny

Ebay works if you stay on it. My 3 wrench Hazet set was just over $40.

Nice suggestion John.
How about someone taking the measurements and posting them so we can confidently duplicate the Hazet wrenches. I too would like a set, and the valve spring depressor tool. I am about to do my first Valve adjustment on my 617(s). This is what we are looking for? ![]() From here: http://www.samstagsales.com/mercedes.htm#valve I have never done business with this site. It was top of a google search. If there is a conflict, I can delete the link.

That is what you are looking for...
except it would be nice if the sides where you have your hand were wider.... You see the good reaction to the kitchen butter knife handles in another thread... I made my two upper wrenches from $7 Sears wrenches... which I found were made of very good metal... The properly made ones will spoon as you use them... thus you can hold them with one hand and keep moving your feeler gauge with the other... while the lowest wrench sits by itself holding the valve by means of that slotted washer. It is important to note that the wrench for the locking nut at the top needs to be thinner than the upper one can be.... So grinding smooth the upper surface of the locking wrench and the bottom of the adjustment nut wrench so the glide past each other and are bent in the same angles..but with the correct DIFFERENCE in length of the vertical part of the shaft will make it all work like it ' should'... So , if you make your own... and add something nice like the kitchen knife handles... place the upper flush with the bottom of the upper wrench... and the lower flush with the top of the bottom wrench...so as to keep your ability to spoon while moving.... I attempted to make that lowest wrench and failed...

There was I guy around the beginning of the last year that made seversl sets of V adjuting Wrenche sets and was selling them on eBay for around $45.
I made a guess and on one of the Threads that he would not last at that price unless he was getting free use of his torch and materials from where he worked. I also added that just standing inline at the Hardwear Store or the Post Office effects what ever amount per hour you intend to make off an item. Then PayPal and eBay get their cut of the money also. Anyway that maker is gone. The MonsterMechanic that sells his homemede set at $65 is still on eBay. So he is selling his at a resonable price considering the ammount he is going to have to pay when he sells them. It is clearly economical to make yourself a set but it takes it a lot of care and planning to make some $s by selling them.
