Smile New arrival!

Well, Like the title says, she arrived! "She" is a beige 1983 300D (turbo of course) with a tick over 231K on her. I have been waiting for a Benz for several years and finally have one.

Of course it is going to need some work (mostly detailing and cosmetic) but seems to be a nice ride. Starts and idles great, runs smooth and quiet, all electrics work (except cruise)

What I know it needs:

Cleaning and detailing!!
All fluids and filters changed (just so I know I am starting fresh)
Cruise fixed
Vacuum system gone thru (looks like PO capped off a couple lines and re-routed others, so......I will be going thru my vacuum diagrams and troubleshooting tips to get that sorted out.
Instrument cluster needles repainted (hate that sickly yellow they turn)
Fix a harsh 1-2 upshift and 2-1 downshift (probably vacuum related due to the above vacuum line issue)
New antenna

So far that's about it. I'm sure I will find more when I dig into it, but it seems to be a really nice ride. Came with virtually EVERY maintenance receipt from the original owner.

I'll post pictures as soon as I can, but stand by for plenty of questions and advice seeking.

Glenn

Depending on what was done, it may be fine. Since you have harsh shifts, some diagnosing is certainly in order. But I've done SOME changes to the vacuum system in my 86 and haven't ever regretted it; everything I took out was unnecessary. It just depends on whether they were making a mess or actually doing you a favor.

Very nice, Glenn. It's hard to beat the feeling of excitement and satisfaction of going over every nook and cranny of a new ride. Be sure to give an extra look to your front end bushings, flex disks, center carrier bearing, exhaust hangers, fuel lines to tank and brake lines to calipers when your under the car. Have fun!

Congrats, and welcome to the MB diesel addiction. You should try to make it to the PNW Get Together, StaggerLee posted a link to it. It's also a sticky at the top of the Diesel Forum

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm looking forward to being here and hopefully attending the PNW get-together. Depends on work :-( I've been around diesels for awhile and have owned a TDI since 02, But I am amazed at how basic yet sturdy the Benz engine is!

Got her cleaned up inside (after about 3 hours of cleaning, but I am a fanatic about a clean inside of a car.)

Discovered a few things I need to fix. Antenna broken off, central locks don't work well (only front doors right now) Adjust parking brake, replace the window switches (they all work, but they are faded and cracked) Fix the wood trim around the shifter (finish is cracked). Washer nozzle on right side is very weak, all the weatherstripping around the doors is starting to crack so it will need replacing in the near future.

In the engine bay, it looks really nice, no leaks from injection pump, noticed NO fuel prefilter, just a straight line to the main filter housing (83's did have a prefilter, correct??)

More later,

Glenn

That is a straight looking unmolested car. Sounds like you have your work cut out. Some of the things you mentioned are fairly easy to fix. Others are a little more involved. I think you did pretty well. Any rust?

And more pics when the rain stops...
