1995 e300 Diesel

Hello all,

I am new to owning a 1995 e300 diesel. I am really loving it, but would like to gain as much info about them as possible. I realize a lot of people on here own these cars, and I have to say, I Love mine! Mainly, I am looking to see if anyone knows of a repair/shop manual for these.. and possibly other W124 diesels.. like the om603 (I have an 87' 300D as well). I just bought my car April 10th for 3,500 (which is less than the owner spent of mechanical repairs and maintainence in the last year, not including the rebuilt A/C). The only main problem is some weird oxidation or paint scratches on the hood, roof and trunk. I am looking to repaint those areas. The other problem is the oil gauge, temp gauge and fuel gauge are flakey and don't always work right.

Multiple electrical gauge problems are likely to be a poor ground connection.

Welcome & Best of Luck,

Thanks, I noticed that Yesterday, I am a little confused about those manuals as they are on CD... I am assuming CD ROM. Has anyone here bought them? Are they any good? I was going to buy This "Mercedes-Benz E-Class W-124 Diesel E200D, E250D, E300D Workshop Manual, Mercedes Repair Manual, Mercedes Service" 'Cause it says it covers all 124 and diesel, however, it said something about it being euro spec. That'd probabably be useful for you 'cause you have a 250TD. Off that subject, I've always wanted to get my hands on an 86' or 87 300D Non-Turbo.

The original manuals from Mercedes, on CD-Rom (2 discs), are excellent. However, I also highly recommend the Haynes 124 manual (it covers euros also), it is IMO a handier workshop manual as it has torques etc. in easily referenced pages, not as much hunting for the info as the original manuals.

I do NOT recommend the Bently "124 Owner's Bible" for anything other than curiosity and trivia, I have found it to have many errors, omissions, and generally is not a useful workshop manual, ... I skimmed through mine years ago and haven't opened it since.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know haynes makes a W124 workshop manual! Does it Cover diesel? 'Cause that's all I have. I am gonna start looking for it. I'll probably buy the Two Disc set right away. I do have the E-Class Owners bible. Granted it's not the best book, however, I've found it useful because of the certain tips it gave about my 87' For example, replacing the vaccum pump, I replaced mine and it was already missing one bearing, and all the others were loose, It could've saved my engine. As well as the whole letting the engine cool at idle deal. Thanks again for the tips, Any idea where i could find the haynes 124 manual?

I just bought a new set of manuals from mercedesmanuals.com it's on a CD, but you get over 2000 pages of useful info. I was a little disappointed at how short some of the explanations were, but overall i am satisfied.

Lol, Thanks Tom, I ordered that CD ROM set last night, and a "pocket mechanics" book on the w124 chassis, they say the engine portion is for Euro versions, I am hoping that it is similar to the U.S. spec engines, I am sure I can figure it out. I've been working on my 87' since 04 without an manual, so this should be a help. My 87 turbo is just acting up to.. a double whammy, the fuel injector lines are leaking, and the water pump appears to be "weeping" Lol. God is good though, he waited untill I got my 95 for the 87 to start it's troubles.

The Haynes is pretty good for the W124. I have one of the giant 3" thick Bentleys for my Jetta Diesel, it was given to me with the cars and honestly was worth 1/4 of the purchase price but I've found it to not be nearly as good as the Haynes books but I am not comparing chassis directly.
