Glow Plug Questions
Hey Guys,
Work continues on my 'Mog (OM617A). Need to sort out the glow plugs. Truck had a small engine compartment fire and the glow plug harness and relay were fried. I am trying to figure out how I want to rig up the new setup. Keep It Simple Stupid applies here. This is a Unimog. Think water/harsh terrain etc. I was curious about the "Fast Glow" setups. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-MERCE...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-MERCEDES-QUICK-FAST-GLOW-PLUG-KIT-300D-300-D-CD-TD-/190391504986?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item It looks like there would be only one wire going to the first glow plug, then the others piggy backing off that one? Is that correct? If so I would imagine that I could simply the setup by only running one wire. Does anyone know how many amps that one would require? Any help = much appreciated. Thanks!

That kit is for the early 61x engines with the loop style plugs, in series system. The later 61x engines have pencil style plugs and are in a parallel system. The kit you linked to, is to switch from loop style to pencil style. The pencil style plugs are much better. Your's may or may not have these plugs. If it does have loop style plug you can buy the glow plugs, and make the jumper wires yourself. If you already have pencil style plugs you don't need to do anything.
YOu do have it right. The wire from the GP relay goes to the first GP, then jumper wires to each of the rest. Make sure to remove the ground. I believe one GP pulls about 20amps.
