Cv axle swap question

I'm looking at buying a used 1984 123 wagon that needs cv axles in the back. Can I use the axles out of my old 1981 240d ?

yes

They are both W123's and the axles are all mix and match. There are two styles of axles used, and you can even mix them on the same vehicle.

FYI, The axle spacers are unique to the axle/differential combination. Use the proper spacer to make sure the retaining clips are snug.

Also, do not swap axle sides. Some early axles are left and right specific.

If there are no oil retention grooves use the axles on the other sides. You may have to do a little checking to make sure you do not have the oil retention grooves on the axles you are using for replacements.
