very hard shifts in a 92 300d

So the car shifts hard, like at moderate acceleration it whips your head back. The lower the acceleration the less violent, but the hardshifts are still very noticeable. At full throttle its like whiplash... The car has done this since I bought it, and got a tiny bit better after a tranny fluid and filter change but not anywhere near normal. so what should I look for, i know nothing about these cars, and I dont know what would make it shift like this? And if the money was present this would be a perfect excuse for a 5speed... Also I wont be able to get back online till after 9 tonight to check this spread, just as an fyi...

My 92 did that until I replaced all the rubber vacuum lines under the hood. I thought some hard shifting was normal after owning a 240D

Thanks for all the insight! I think i have narrowed it down to to vacuum and a power problem. My delievery valves on the ip leak alot, so i dont think that im getting all the fuel i need to make all the power i need. Also after messing around a bit I have noticed that the climate control does not do anything as far as move the air flow to different positions. Im going to get the ip seals soon, and start searching for vacuum leak(where are the most common problem areas?) Also what should my 0-60 time be as far as power goes?
