Transmission won't shift. into 3rd or 4th

Today I drove 100mi no problem Md to NJ and back.. Then I went on short trip to the get a new GPS (wife and I both need one tomorrow). I get on I95 and all the sudden it won't shift out of second. Going down I95 in second doing 4500rpm about 40 mph is not fun. I get to the store and let car idle a cool down. Get GPS. Start home on local roads it shift from first to second fine (firm) but won't shift to third. Checked fluid level was a little low Added fluid. Will start out in second if I don't push it hard as it is suppose too.

Trans acts strange evey now and then but for the most part it has been shifting great with no issues.

Where should I start to diagnose?

(5spd is in the future but I was not hoping now)

I had symptoms of a B2 Pistion issue that has apparently been cured by changing the Filter.

One of the sites listed in the thread has some troublshooting stuff

Change fluid and filter, likely the filter is plugged. Did your problem follow a high-RPM freeway entrance or passing maneuver?

Yes I was entering the highway aggressively as the NA 2.5 L would do.

I changed the fluid filter in the transmission. Filled with ATF and lube guard , to my surprise it is shifting great. Thanks

I have purchased a 5spd, peddle assembly, drive shaft, cross member, and flywheel for when I get my garage built with a lift. Man I hate working on creepers draining transmissions. Garage should be built by fall!.

Happy to hear it, ... hopefully just a past-due service. The 5-speed swap sounds like a nice way to go, I'm not quite that motivated though.
