Absolutely. I also occasionally leave a note under the wiper blade.

I actually flirted with the very attractive driver of a similar-vintage C-Klasse on the highway not too long ago. Hers was a gasser (forget what model, maybe a C230?), but I waved at her and smiled, she grinned, pretended not to notice and sped off. I gave chase and we played cat-and-mouse in traffic until our paths split. It was a blast.

See if that happens to you in a car with the blue-and-white crest. ;P

I usually wave if i get some one looking my way. I always try to acknowledge them with a thumbs up or wave.
there are an awful lot of the Hippy type, WVO crowd here in the Santa Cruz area. they usually drive the 240, 300D, TD and SD. usually they are pretty beat looking, and only have the car to run WVO or Bio-D. usually not the enthusiast or purist type MB owner.

There is the crowd that has the new MB`s, and really don`t relate to the older cars, and wouldn`t give us the time of day. what ever the in thing to drive, and they have it for a while.

I have had a few fly past in their 123, not honk or wave, but sure are looking in their rear view mirror. so I wave, whether they see me or not.

Past an old 123 today in town, waved at the guy, and he just looked right through me. then was getting fuel in the 240, this guy pulls in with a tired looking blue SD. Didn`t give me or the 240 a second glance, but did look as i pulled out. maybe he was imbarrassed by his old car.

I always compliment some on in a parking lot, "Hey, nice car" "I have one too" and we get a conversation going.
this is how we got the 240 last Feb. was in a gas station, she pulls up behind my old Datsun Diesel. "Hey nice car" bla bla bla, and 3 weeks later, she gave it to us. .

I sometimes get compliments from people that aren`t driving one of these old cars, but did buy one new years ago, and are now driving a new 2010 MB.

Reminds me back in the days VW beetles were popular, and every one waved to each other. it was a special groupe of people, and made you feel good. there even was a little VW magazine that came out monthly with stories of what people did with their bugs. I had a new 69, and later a 67 that was my baby, until a Pinto ran me over .

There are a few W123s running around here. I usually wave if in my 240D. I have had a few experiences to talk to the owners of some of the other cars. One was when I bent two of my rims. The tires weren't holding ari very well. I was putting air in at a station. A guy was looking at me and walking around. He got in a 300D, we talked a bit as he stopped with his window down.
Another time, I was picking up a shirt and an Embrodery store. I walked past another 300D. It was in really nice shape. I could tell if it was the woman who was near it or they guy. I talked latter to the guy, he started the conversation. He was recentyl from eastern PA.
Last year at one of my RC airplanes club fly-ins two guy drove in, in a cherry 240D. It was a stick, like mine too. I talked a bit then. A few weeks ago, we had another fly-in. I was manning the traffic/greeting gate. He drove by. I had my 240D under the Pop-Up, with a Meshersmit 109 on the hood. We waved at each other. I said, 'Hey, cool car." He waved and laughed a bit.

I started to wave the other day and got a wave back. It felt good.
If others think it's just a used car...their ignorance is not my problem.
If other drivers see me wave and think I'm a freak...I can live with that!

Charlie

I've run across the same thing a few times as well with W126s. The conversation was the same each time.....

"I used to have one of those."
Then they will go into details (car color year etc) They will then end with.
"I should have never sold it."

My twin

Pulled up to a light this morning right next to my twin. Another blue 300D just sitting at the light turning left. The female driver waved and thumbs up to which I reciprocated. As I was just looking around and making sure the lite didn't change I glanced over again and she was taking a pic with a cell phone. Now I wish I had followed her around the corner and not gone straight thru the lite.

I had a girl shout at me once, "Nice car!"

There is also someone on Ithaca College's campus who drives a silver on blue 300D with 450,000 miles

That car looks tired, but it's still a Benz and is identical to mine in every possible color.

I almost always wave at W124 owners, and always W123 and back.

But I ALWAYS notice the Benzes. Even whilst driving, you will hear "Benz" from one of our kids (14, 9, & 6) in the back seat when one is spotted; even in movies or on TV.

c'mon guys. if a girl is taking a picture of you or saying nice benz, you really need to try to hook up with her. you need to pursue that line of inquiry. if she takes a picture, you've gotta have a nice come-back for that: "you're not going to post my pic on your facebook page and claim i'm your boyfriend, are you?"

never let an opportunity go to waste

I have only driven my SDL less than 200 miles total, but I would wave If I saw someone!

During today's adventures while I was broken down at the biodiesel station, with plugged filters and a dead battery, I saw 3 123s? '80-'85 looking 300d I don't know the years, but that look. Maybe being in an SDL made me not in the same league?

The first was there when I drove up. I waved as I pulled in behind him, no response. Another came in and out while I had my head buried under the hood, but I didn't see the driver. Then a 40 something couple came in. I am kinda sitting on the fender with the hood up so the tow driver can ID me easily. I didn't need there help at the time, I wasn't asking. I did wave and I said hello. The guy just went on about filling his car as if I didn't exist. No resentment here, just surprise.

My other cars are cars where people wave at each other and I would certainly be surprised to not have a conversation if we met.

I always wave. Here in Austin, TX old Mercedes are still generally thought of as cool old cars. If I happen to see an 123 wagon that usually solicits an involuntary honk and enthusiastic wave....
