Trim and clips
Hello All, I have an '84 300Sd and I need some help with the moulding and fastners. The PO had the car repainted some years ago and the shop just put some silicone on the back of the trim and stuck it on. It was missing the drivers door trim and today the drivers side fender trim came loose. I removed it and found no clips in the trim only in the fender, and some dried up goo. I would like to know what clips I am missing and what they look like so I can install the two pieces of trim. I have found some on this site but am not shure of which ones I need. My wife already does not like the car and now it looks worse.

There are red buttons that press into the sheetmetal, sometimes called "monkey *******s" (think baboon).
Your trim has white points clipped onto the trim that snap into the red buttons. If one of both are missing, you will not get the trim to latch onto the car. Jim

Well ,I have none of the red ones but a row of white ones below that. I have the male side on the top of the trim and some broken black ones on the lower part. also the fender seems to have a different set up. I see the red ones for sale here but no black ones. I gather that the black ones are supposed to be male and fit in the white female? The fender looks like it had two metal clips at each end (that are rusted away) so what do I need? Thanks

I was told (for my W123) that the red ones were the old ones and the new ones are white. And yes I think the white are female. I got a load from the dealer - not cheap I'm sorry to report.

All of the clips on the trim snap in except the last one towards the
rear of the car. That one is held on with a hex head (7mm, I think) screw. Carefully pull away the black weather stripping behind the rear of the trim and there is a hole to access that screw. Jeff
