From your description it is not the valves. The miss should grow worse as the engine warms and the valve stems elongate from the increased heat. Still wise to at least check the valve clearances every 15 k as the manufacturer suggests.

Since it is a 240 make sure you have good fuel pressure in the base of the injection pump. This is just a sensible precaution on the four cylinder engines.Has nothing to do with your problem.
