Inoperable windows

How involved is the trace of wiring connecting window motors to the control panel? Except for the driver's side, none of the windows are operational (they were at different times). I took the panel off the passanger's side door and applied 12v from the battery and the motor worked. I have tested the swith from the moving window in the slot for the passanger's window- no go. That tells me that the problem is somewhere between the motor lead wires and the underside of the control panel.Any comments greatly appreciated. And please be gentle- not a whole lot of experince in electrical troubleshooting.

Check the fuse first, but you have a similar problem as I do. Both my driver side windows work, the front passenger window does nothing, even after a new switch. The rear passenger makes a sound that tells me it needs a new slider, so at least there is power to that.

You want to list the exact car that you have to make it easier.

I recently lost operation in all the windows on my SDL - just mysteriously all in one day stopped working. I jostled the fuses around and swapped the relays - not sure your car has them but mine did - there were 6 relays located in the area of the fuses. Swapping them around or maybe just getting them re-seated fixed my problem (at least for now) fingers crossed.

As previous posted noted, I would also check the fuses one by one - pull them out one by one, don't just visually inspect them... the ends may be corroded and fail to make a good connection.

Start with that - good luck -
James

Also, you may have a cracked or broken wire between the chassis and the door. 20 years of opening and closing the doors puts stress on the wiring, bending back and forth. you might consider looking there too.

Windows are powered in a cross pattern. 2 fuses. 1 does front left/ right rear. The other powers Front right/ left rear. So if you have both drivers side windows operating, it isnt a fuse or a relay. Swapping the switches is smart, but note that for the rear, I believe that if the rear switch is bad, power from the front switch will not operate the motor.

Wiring diagrams are available. I'd love to have one for my W124 and W210.

Best of luck.
