should modulator valve hold vacuum
I just purchased A new modulator valve (red one ) for my 81 240D because my old one was leaking. Before installing it I assymbled it (cap o-ring ect.) and hooked up A hand held vacume pump and got 15-20 hg vacume and it leaked down right away. My question is should it hold vacume if tested this way even with my finger over end that normaly screws into the transmission?

For a while, but not terribly long.

Your finger may not be a very good seal. Put some tranny fluid on it and make sure your connection to the modulator is giving you a good seal as well.

You should be able to pull vac on it and it should bleed off in about 30 seconds.
