I wouldnt pass judgement on the rust just by a few pics of the trunk...I'd wager the rear window needs resealed. I'd get more pics of the undercarriage as I said. Then we/you can pass judgement on the structure.

Here are some albums of rust on my 126s. I had a thread somewhere around here asking about the structure of the car and whatnot. I got a few replied that were "lol you're kidding right?" Heres the thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=278487

I was specifically asking about my green car:

This car is actually now on stands in the garage getting ready to have some of those spots welded up, soon as I can find someone with a welder.

For comparison here is my 140k 300SD, it hasnt seen a winter in at least ten years:

And here is the 420SEL we just picked up:

I'd buy it for a parts car for my 300SD... I'd LOVE to get cloth on my car. AND manual climate control. AND euro bumpers and lights. AND zebrano trims... AND etc, etc etc

Well I'm thinking that it might be worth my time to go take a look at this one. What do we think $500-$800? assuming that after I look at it the rust isn't too bad...

Well I went and had a look at it, and much to my expectations you were all correct. It was definitely an interesting car. It had the full vacuum lumbar seats, manual climate controls, vacuum adjustable headlights, brand new tires, driver side airbag, euro bumpers with AMG ground effects.. the downside? well you were right, the trunk would indeed need some patching but the frame seemed solid from my climbing around. Not much rust on the body. Sunroof drains are plugged and the back window leaks
Took it for a test drive, it definitely needs new shocks, and its missing the kick-down switch for some reason (must be a result of the conversion).

I'm thinking of offering $150 for it since I figure the euro goodies are worth at least that... Thanks again for all your replies as you all nailed this one..
