om617 Erratic oil pressure??

Goodmornin. As I was driving my 84 300tdt this morning I noticed erratic oil pressure, so much that it sounds like something rattling in the dash. Anyone know what can cause this? Should I be really concerned?

Feel around below the gauge. There is a pressure line going to it, if you feel any oil, take precautions.

Check the level too.

Yes you should be concerned. Anytime oil pressure does weird things take heed. Low oil pressure can destroy an engine really quick. First check your oil level. Then rule out the easy stuff. As stated above make sure the oil line in the back of the cluster isn't leaking. Also it is normal for the oil pressure drop when the engine is hot AND you are at idle. Anytime your foot is on the go petal it should peg out at 3bar. And when it's cold it will always be at 3bar. Once the engine is warm, the pressure will drop to 1.5 to 2bar while idling and then pop right back up to 3 when you push the petal.

If your oil pressure is going erratic with driving, then you've got low oil level, and/or a big leak somewhere. Rattling noises aren't good.

pull your oil filter lid, and check the o-rings on the end of the shaft.
are they there? are they brittle?
get a set of new o-rings. 6mmid/10mmod, and 7mmid/11mmod toss em on there and see if the oil pressure smooths out.
