w123 5 speed

is the 5 speed manual transmission the same for a diesel and a gasser? if so, would the drive shaft -from the gasser- be the same length as a 240d or a 300d? came across a gasser with 5 speed manual transmission. loooking to mate it with a euro 300d that has a 4 speed manual and 300d flywheel.

I believe the ds should be pretty close if not identical in a 280e and a 300d.

No. Starter and bell housing patterns may be different between gas and diesel.

that combo will work. The M110 and OM617 can interchange the transmission.

The drive shaft length is different for each motor/trans/body combination. For instance, 5 vs 6 cylinders for the motor. That also means the shift rods are different lengths.

Make sure to match the pilot bearings. If not, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise if the the pilot shaft from your transmission does not fit.
