w126 300sd Glove Box Latch

Hey gang!

Just researched the forum and haven't found much, so I'm submitting a new thread.

Went to close my Glovebox in my 82 300SD (126) two days ago and was very surprised to hear a 'crunch' when I should have heard a nice 'click'. Sure enough, the little pot-metal (?) based 'U' that grabs onto the latch had disintegrated. What was once a 'U' now looks like '| |'

Looked just about everywhere, including FastLane, and can't find anyone who sells the 'U'. Check out both wrecking yards near me and they laughed when I mentioned anything older than the mid-90s. Thought I saw one listing on eBay, but the 'U' they were selling looked completely different (black and plastic).

In other news, she just crossed 369,000 miles!!

Many thanks!

Thanks to all who posted replies and helped - Car's developed a newer, more intriguing problem with crummy idle and smoke issues - I'm researching through the forums as I type this.

We're almost up to 370,000 now!
