I am have trouble with the dome light in my 1987 300D. The back light works when the back doors open. The front map light and dome light both work when selected by the switch. When the switch is set for the dome light to come on when the doors open nothing happens. Is there a way to fix this without having to buy a new dome light assembly?

does the entire light come on, or just the map light, when you slide the switch?
on mine, the light quit working, but the door lights still come on. and the map light comes on. I think I have a bulb out, but I've not figured out how to take it apart yet.
and I'm too stubborn to ask on here how to do it.
fear not, I have a parts car to disassemble without fear of breaking it.

if it's the same problem for both front doors, then the issue is in the dome assembly

wiggle the switch in the vicinity of where it should be for door operation, and do this with the door open

when you're tired of that, clean the switch

there is a also a delay on timer circuit (no "theatre fade" feature that came 10 years later), wonder if the issue is with that?
