Broken headlight adjuster? See pics. '83 SD

Please tell me how this is supposed to work. In pic 1 the headlight is aimed properly. In 2, the adjuster seems to have slide out of adjustment, what is supposed to hold it in place? The others seem to have the "ball" gripped, this one the "ball" doesn't seem to be held by anything. This is on my 83 SD. Thanks for the help

Yup, it's broken. Solution? Give the other member who is selling a set of euro lamps for your car his good asking price of $160 and deposit the US lights in the trash.

If you like your american style frames you can:
a) Go to a junkyard and get them used.
b) Get them new. Example: http://www.autopartsdeal.com/catalog/?N=0&uts=true&Ntt=1985+Mercedes+Benz+300SD+Bosch+Headlight+Frame
I've heard the euros have glass lenses so they won't go yellow and ugly with time. That would be my choice.

I have the euro glass lenses on my sd. they are quite a bit cleaner looking that the lamps and doors. Only problem with glass is that if a rock hits them with enough gusto you get a starburst.

The light output from the euro style lights is quite good. That plus the cleaner look makes them a great upgrade.

If you are worried about breakage you can get some laminix to stick on the glass.

Beat me to it. Reflectors look good in the photos too.

$160 really is a good price for those. I paid almost double that for a pair in slightly better condition on German eBay. And they were worth every penny.

I'd much rather have euro's. I had them on my 124. But in the meantime I'm stuck with the broken one. Can I glue it? JB Weld? and hope I don't need to adjust it again?
