Help! Engine won't turn off.

I've got a 1986 190D 2.5 non-turbo(201.126 602.911). I just finished putting new seals on the delivery valves and cleaning/pop testing the injectors.
When I got the engine started, it slowly climbed to 2500 or so rpm, would not come down, would NOT turn off, and the emergency stop lever under the hood did not work either.

Is it possible that the delivery valve copper washers are put in wrong? Would this cause the out of control running? They were used. I could have put them in upside down. I've pulled all the vacuum hoses trying to get it to stop, to no avail.

I can't believe the vacuum pump would have picked this time to fail, but I guess it is possible. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
jeff

Jeff,
Congratulations on your first post !!
It is concerning that the emergency stop is not working. Did you go in deeper than just the copper washers?
Pulling the vac lines off would only prevent it from stopping with the key.
My guess is that you may have a stuck linkage.
How did you stop it?

Is it still running? How did you get it to shut off?

Disconnect or clamp a Fuel Line to cut off the Fuel or safely Block off the Air from the Engine.

It is a 5 speed, so I just popped the clutch with the brake on.
I could clamp the fuel feed to the IP, but I've got the "blue" internal Biodiesel resistant hose; not sure if it would hurt the internal portion of the hose.

since it's off, I'd go ahead and leave it off, pull the parts you put in back out, and get some solid pictures and instructions how to put all the parts of the IP exactly where they go.
I'm sure others have rebuilt the DV's on a 602, so there's gotta be a diy or pictorial on here somewhere. the 603 should be very similar, so if you find one for that, it should suffice.

Thanks for the response. I got my original parts from **************, with instructions. I also found a DIY on a 300 DV R&R(great pics).
I've gotten pretty fast taking the intake off, also. I will be tearing it down again. Just wondering if I should have the IP rebuilt this time.
Of course, the only reason I removed them in the first place was a couple of small leaks around the DVs. The car ran perfect! I just can't leave well enough alone!

VSTECH,
Thanks for the offer! I don't think they are. It looks like they even have different ones depending on what time of the year you purchased your '86.
And finding a used IP for this car is a heck of a chore. I thought I would get one and mess with it at my own time. But they are impossible to find.
Thanks again for the offer. I I thought I could get away with it, I'd weld the thing on!

while there are certainly differences that would result in part number variations, check with Roy (Whunter) and see if it'll swap and work.
if anybody would know, he would. (buy parts link, fastlane etc. his number is listed there.)
