Will I have a Problem, 240D air filter cover gasket
I have a 1981 240D and went to replace the air filter.
When I took off the lid, the gasket in the lid fell apart. Anyway, I just put the lid back on and started driving. While putting the lid back on, it seems that when the lid is screwed down, and the clamps are down, that the filter is sealed against the lid. I don't think any unfiltered air is getting into the engine. Is my thinking, correct? If not, then where to find the gasket that goes in the lid? Bob 1981 240D |

Gasket in the lid? I haven't seen that, either on my 616 or 617. I'm pretty sure it seals on the lid.

The "gasket" was prolly the top of the filter fallen off. I'd get another filter right away and put it in.

No, no. There was originally a gasket that helped the metal lid seal down on the air box. It's NLA from the dealer last time I tried to order one from Peachparts, and mine is completely missing on my 617 and shredded into pieces on my 616. Most of them probably rotted away and couldn't be replaced years ago. But my 240 definitely has the pieces left... there used to a rubber seal around the inner rim of the air filter cover.

I have a Mac or I'd pull up the EPC. Maybe somebody with Windows could pull up the air cleaner and see if there's a factory part # for that gasket just to prove it existed at one time.

I've pulled up the EPC... there are two gaskets listed for my 83...
A0010945280 A0010947180 But it's NLA for anything before '82. Also, does anybody know what "TOP TO 011 094 29 02, 011 094 75 02" means?

Even if any of it did make into the engine, it should be digestible.

You'll need the proper gasket for which ever housing you have, go by the part numbers. Item #101 is part #012 094 26 02, for model year 1981 only.
