There is no such vehicle as you describe. The last diesel wagon was the 1987 300TD. In 1989 there was a diesel sedan (300D 2.5 Turbo) but it had a 5-cylinder engine, not a six.

So, you need to look a little more closely at what exactly is being offered for sale.

hopefully it's an 87, or it's possibly a gray market car from europe.
I have the 87TD wagon, and it's just the most amazing mercedes vehicle I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

Its a rare car if it's the 87 wagon. Maybe less than 1000 around now. This info was very helpful for me.....even though I found it after the purchase . Not sure who the original post is from

In the US, the 87 was the last diesel wagon until after the turn of the century.
The Europeans arent the picky Deuchbags we are here in the US, so there were more diesels, and thus more TDs.
If you have come across an 89 TD, fantastic. buy it.

I have an 87TD and LOVE it. Great car. I also love my W123TD.

Enjoy.

Oil leaks. where they are and how bad they are, look at the injection pump, make sure it's not seeping diesel, Some of them are a simple fix though. Check the fuel Pre filter (clear plastic filter on the left of the engine, should be clear with no black build up in it, Check the condition of the over flow lines between the injectors (look like cloth braided line) they have a tendancy to leak, look for rust. if it's been in the south all it's life then you may not find as much of an issue as if it had spent a majority of the time in the north
