Injector lines, procedure?? Glow plugs etc.

Is there a procedure when re-installing injector lines?
Do I tighten at the pump first and then at the injector or doesn't matter.

Also, did the glow plugs over the weekend. Had to take the intake and injector lines off to get to them.
Now the engine seams "louder" then before.
Starts right up, but the sound on idle is different.

One of the glow plugs did not want to thread all the way in as well..

Thank you
Martin

Since it's running again, I guess you have the injector lines back in place. To answer your question, it doesn't matter which end of each line you tighten first BUT it IS important that you get the fittings on both ends of a line started on their threads before tightening either of them. After all are tightened THEN tighten the clamps between the lines.

If it doesn't sound the same, you may very well have a leaking manifold or even that loose glow plug could be making noise. You should pull that glow plug and clean the threads, then rethread it and tighten.

If you don't have a tap, you can clean the threads by taking one of your old glow plugs, the cleanest threaded one you can find, and file some notches lengthwise with a three corner file. Use this as a thread chaser. Whenever they are not threading easily with a wrench, don't force them. Clean the threads first.

Hope this helps.

another reason the GP's may be having issues is carbon build up in the chamber.
a member on here is selling home built reamers for removing the carbon.

It will sometimes take a highway run to get all of the air out of the lines, noisy till then.

I had the same problem when I removed the hard lines to inspect my glow plugs. Air is introduced to the system. The engine sounded so bad, I thought I had somehow damaged it. It took me two or three tries, at cracking the injectors, a couple of days apart, to bleed all the air out. It finally quieted down.

Do you crack them with engine stopped or running?
Yes, the sound is very mechanical.

Thank you.

crack them at idle. I start at the rear of the motor and work my way forward one at a time.
