ok, i'm stuck. can't find instructions in a search

axle

rear axles on a '79 240D

how in the heck do i remove these? tire off, calipers off, the instructions i've seen do not tell me what to remove to make the rotor assy swing out of the way. it appears it all is connected to the 'A' arm suspension.

I do have the center bolt removed at the rotor. can i now just push the axle out???

thanks for the help.

Guy

In the center of the hub is a bolt. 13mm, remove it.

Drain the Differential oil. first make sure you can get the fill plug off before draining the Differential.

Remove the "C" clip inside the Diff on the end of the axle.

Use a brass drift and knock the axle towards the Diff from the Hub. then it should drop down and slide out of the Diff.

There are 2 types of axles, Annular and Homokenetic.
the Annular are a 2 piece axle, with 6 bolts on the Diff end. 8mm Hex as i remember. remove the Hub bolt, then the 6 bolts on the other end, shove towards the hub and drop down.

The Homo axles are all one piece, and you will have to take the cover off the Diff to remove the "C" clip.

Did you see this DIY? visuals show if better than trying to explain it sometimes.

the picture of the axles in the begining are the Homokenitic. the replacements are the Annular style.

update:

thanks Charlie, maybe you have a solution to this, i hope someone does.

on the differential cover, how in the world do you get that top-right bolt off? i don't have a hose coming from the atmosphere tube, it has a cap. there doesn't seem to be a way to get a socket or even an open-end wrench on it.
