The 2.47 is nice if you're not in a hurry and have the later high-stall speed '85 torque converter, that helps a lot. Our converted car can do 70-75 just fine up any hills we've come across so far with no need to downshift to 3rd.

I'd probably want to use a 2.88 if I did it to my car....but I don't do much highway driving anymore, so its not really necessary. I'd prefer LSD over fast acceleration.

I see 2.88's all the time. I am sure I can get you one....for a 126, right????
Yep.......for the SD........as a spare.

I keep thinking about changing my 300D from a 3.07 to a 2.88, but I don't think I would go any higher than that. It would be nice to drop a couple 100 rpm on the highway, but I don't want it to have to downshift on hills.

IMHO it'd have to be an unusually long/steep hill to require a downshift.....our '83 300SD has a 2.47 and it takes on all of the hills around here just fine in 4th gear...especially at 70mph +

We have had 2 weeks of HARD, continuous rains. The wrecking yards are flooded. As soon as they dry out, i will get you one.

Think a 107 speedo for a 2.47:1 axle would fit the W116?????

No great hurry. I'm going to put it on the shelf. LMK where to ship the 2.47. It's been collecting dust for way too long. Somebody needs to use it and I can't think of a better fellow.

I didn't even bother with a different speedo. Got one of those digital speedometer recalibration units and the the SD now reads perfectly.

I don't think you've got that luxury on the W116..........unless it also has an electronic speedo............

Nope...the old W116 is manual.....but I can get it recalibrated or use a 107 speedo....:-)

Right now, I am turning 3000 @ 70 and the 2.47:1 would get me down to 2400 @ 70. The 617.950 seems to pull its hardest from 2400 to 3400 rpm, so I would like to keep it at the bottom end of that range.

The 722.120 shifts to compound low when you let off the brake, so acceleration, along with tuning and 14.7 lbs of boost, should not be a problem.

And LSD will be a great asset in the snow!!!!!!!

Many Thanks!!!!!!

Funny you mention that..........after sitting for several months, it always presents that lifter noise. Usually disappears after a good highway run.
I've been running M1 0W-40 for the lack of any knowledge of an alternate.

The oil pump on the BMW V8's is bolted together and the bolts work loose. This allows the oil to drain out of the galleys. The fix is pulling the sump, dropping the pump and Loctiting the bolts.

We use to do this all day long at the dealer....Robert

The BMW M5 V8 specifies a Castrol 15w60 synthetic. We eventually started using it in all BMW V8's and V-12's and it is an excellent oil....Robert

I've got a very interesting situation with the SD.

Firstly, all pods work and the system holds vacuum (bad pods replaced several years ago and retested recently).

With system in economy mode, center vents are open. However, center vents are open with center vent pod closed. If I apply vacuum to the center vent pod, the outlet air temperature rises noticeably from stone cold to lukewarm, so I know the door is operating.

The question is how the air is getting to the center vents with the pod closed?
