So I've seen the trap ox. And it looks like mine was replaced (no trap ox and a cat-looking thing farther down the exhaust). So is this just an empty foil covered tube?

Yes its empty. Some of the cars got a catalyst after the downpipe, like mine.

Mine has the cat further back in the down pipe also. Somebody is actually trying to sell a trap ox on ebay claiming it is a VERY hard part to find! Guess he is counting on someone not knowing about the recall.
