Finally a TD owner!

After a few years of on and off looking I finally found a TD. I had to drive 3 hours to get it. It's a 1979 and only has 149K on the clock. It has zero rust and dents and the interior is in pretty good condition. The only negative is the P.O. used some household paint to touch up the rock chips and it looks really bad I am going to have to get that fixed. But my first priority is it needs glowplugs, need to figure out why the windows won't roll up, and the rest will be fixing little things as I go. I will try to get some pictures posted up in the next day or so.

Justin

Hey Justin, glad you finally found a wagon. Some polish might take off the house paint.

Are your window motors making any noise when you push the buttons, or do get nothing at all? Lots of time the swtiches need to be cleaned up.

Since I've gotten rid of my wagon, I've got some random wagon parts you might find useful.

Cool, you probably have the loop style glow plugs, are they connected with each other via a wavy wire?
If so, when one goes bad, none will work. You'll have to pull each one and inspect. There are update kits available to change them to the new pencil style.

If you have power windows, check all your fuses first.
If you have manual windows, you'll need to inspect the regulator for possible obstructions.

A kit really isn't needed. I upgraded my 78 240's loop style to pencile style by just buying the pencil style for the early models and making my own jumper wires between each plug. You don't need to swap the GP relay or any of that jazz. Though the GP light in the dash still stays on the same length as it did before, not the quick light like in the later models.

Congrats, Justin. Sounds like a nice find, house paint excluded.

Welcome to the NA TD club!

Congrats on your purchase!! Looking forward to seeing pictures of it.

I highly recommend you purchase 5 Bosch #80035 duraterm glowplugs and make 4 jumper wires out of 10 gauge wire. The updated plugs are much better in my opinion, 5 sec pre-glow time...

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to Wagon ownership! I looked in the glove box today and all the original paper work, owners manuals, receipts for work done that was neat! It has the warning triangle in the side panel and a first aid kit. I am really hoping to find a third row seat for it soon. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried all of the lights they all work (including the dash lights and dome light)! I took it for a quick spin around the block and it has good power transmission shifts firm and the tires are all in good shape. I will keep you guys posted as I make more progress with the car. Thanks again for you help and advice on the repairs needed. I will hopefully get some pictures up soon.

Got a few pictures with my cell phone...not the best. Also what color is this car? I need to get a picture of the interior as it is a color I have never seen before also.

Loaded up and headed home:

I have seen that color on here before, I'm sure someone who has it will chime in on it's color, but on the radiator support there is a panel with number codes on it. you can look up the color name on paintscratch.com or similar.
be sure and keep fresh fuel filters in there. AMAZING difference on power and acceleration with new filters. adjust the accelerator linkage, and fuel filters and this car really moves. I miss my 79TD...

Thanks for the help on the colors I have never seen that color combination before but I like it. I need to pull her into the garage and go through all the filters and fluids and get the glowplugs updated and get the windows working again. I was wondering can you put the newer style switches in this year car, I have a parts 85 300D I was wondering about switching the whole control part of the console out? Thanks again for everyone's help and advice I can't wait to get it on the road!

Beautiful looking car, ID! I love that color combo. You've got a much nicer starting point than I did. Enjoy!
