rough idle

1985 300D-TD will not idle smoothly, after start or after normal operating temp is reached , following has been done recently, new timing chain, valve adjustment, checked for vacume leaks, replaced all filters, injectors checked, ran a can of BG44 thru it seemed to make it worse, car starts fine and does not use any oil between changes 3k-5kmiles. Any suggestions, where do I go from here, Thanks

Ron, do a search for rough idle, that would be a place to start. Might want to try a IP rack adjustment for the warm/hot rough idle but will have to defer to the senior membors for the cold idle issue.

Good luck and enjoy this forum.

rough idle

In addition to the above work , replaced engine mounts, still rough, tried to adjust rack and it smooths out somewhat but does
not seem to hold adjustment, can the rack bolt become faulty or is this more likly a internal injection pump problem? car runs great, starts well when cold or hot, good milage 25-29, has good power. Thanks

The rack bolt has a pin on the back of it that wears out over time, a new one is $25 at the dealer.. you probably need a new rack bolt.

If you have replaced your chain, wouldn't that throw off the IP timing???

If your car had been timed with a retarded chain (stretched), I think your timing will be off with this new chain. And that will cause rotten running.
