The "Made in" designation only refers to the last place a major operation was performed on the part. You could, for example, have a lower control arm core made in China, ball joint made in Korea, and bushings made in Turkey. If they are assembled into a complete LCA in Germany, then the part is "Made in Germany". Silly way to buy parts.

Just serviced my 606 transmission. The Mann filter was Made in China. The one I took off came from Mercedes Made in Germany.

For my 84 W123 300D: Bought a Hella Hazard Flasher Switch on eBay and and unhappy it is made in India. It sucks that I paid $27 for the Indian made Switch.
Have not installed it to know if it will work yet. Note if you are having trouble with your turn signal flasher I found that the turnsignal part of the flasher will not work without the Hazard Switch being plugged in. I fooled with the stock hazard switch and restored the turn signals but not the hazard flasher. Also note my Wife likes to polp her Purse on top of the counsel right where the Hazard Switch is. I also bought some cheapie Power Window Switches for the counsel and they lasted one month. Turns out the switch rockers inside are stamped aluminum and instead of there being brazed on contact points there aluminum bumps pressed into the rockers that quickly burned and did not work.

Well after 8 years on my '82 240D. the Turkish hood-star and exhaust hanger donuts I got from Mercedes still look good, and the axle-boots on my CVJ rebuilds still look good. From years of visiting my Pick-N-Pull, I've also accumulated a decent stock of spare relays, switches, hanger-donuts, and other misc hardware for this car. At least most, if not all of it, appears to be made in Germany.
OTOH, my indie Mercedes parts place folded last year, so I may be stuck paying a kings-ransom for parts from Mercedes. ![]() Happy Motoring, Mark

Just got a set of contitech belts. NOT the same look/feel as what I have in NOS for my 300D.
These say "engineered in Germany made in China". Ugh, no thanks. I'll start looking for Dayco. Ive seen lots of offshoring by gates, but dayco may not be so yet...

A couple of years ago Continental bought the company that makes Goodyear branded belts. Goodyear tends to license their name to other companies. According to the web site https://www.contitech.us/pages/contitech/history/history_en.html Quote:

OE is fine, COO is my issue.
My older Contitech belts are made in Germany. My 82 300CD had fine belts when I bought it - they are still on - US made Goodyears...
