Dipstick Discrepancy!

So while I am at school, my car (SD) sits for about a week at a time. I usually drive it on the weekends and what not. Before every trip I check the oil. Today I checked it and when I first pulled it out there was nothing on the stick! There was no huge puddle under it and I had full oil pressure when I parked it. So I checked it again. The next 3 times I checked it this morning it read right around just above the minimum mark, so I added a quart.

This isn't the first time this has happened though. Just wondering what causes this and if is normal or is there anything I can do about it?

oil expands as it gets warmer, I'd assume that it's just under the Dipstick. though, it begs the question, where does the oil go? how much does your car use between changes?

The dipstick tube goes down to almost touching the bottom of the oil pan. The top of the dipstick has an o-ring to seal it to the top of the tube. Next time, pull the dipstick up enough to release the seal at the top of the tube and wait a short while for the oil level in the tube to equalize with the oil level in the sump. Now take your reading.

Right now it uses about a quart every 150 miles. Not good I know, but it developed a leak in the turbo return seal that I have not been able to address while at school. This weekend I am going home and should be able to deal with it then.

Sitting for a week and checking before starting should result in a false "overfill" reading as the oil normally up in the head would have all drained to the pan while sitting. Oil should always be checked at operating temp, within minutes of shutdown.
