1985 300 TD Brakes are not working
My 300 TD has been sitting outside in NY most of the winter. I have just had "Martha" shipped to our home in Texas and WHAMO, issues arose. Before the trip Martha had been the most reliable and lowest maintenance vehicle I have ever own. Please help me!
#1. Brakes - My brake pedal had zero resistance and the brakes barely worked. I checked the resevoir and it was empty. Does anyone have a brake diagram? Perhaps from the resevoir all the way to the wheels? #2. Fluids - Martha is now leaking the following, Transmission, Antifreeze, and oil. (She has always had an oil leak) I would love some insight into tracking down the brake issue and any other info you folks can send my way. ARJ |

If it's empty it's definately a leak! Either at the calipers/connecting rubber hose, corroded/broken hard line somewhere, or the master cylinder is bad putting the fluid back into the brake booster! The latter is not good as it will mess up the booster in short time. You can pull the vac line to it and with a flashlight look inside....should be dry in there
Be sure to bleed the brakes well when you fix it and fill it up. Does it have a lot of rust? IMO -If it has a lot of rust, not sure if it's worth taking....it's a nasty thing!

Any chance the lower part of the radiator was damaged in the move?

ya. brakes out of fluid, and you're looking for leak.
start at the back wheels, and move forward. very simple brakes. caliper, flex hose, steel line, mc all wheels same.

If the movers weren't careful they could have damaged the lower part of the radiator or the tranny coolant hoses (two rubber hoses with springs on under the radiator. Brakes are straightforward to look for leaks in that almost all the parts are easily visible. vstech's advice is good. |
