Unclogged my CAT, no cutting or welding

Hey everyone, just wanted to tell everyone how i got rid of my cat-crap

after unhooking the rear section of the exhaust, took a long drillbit and put a bunch of holes in the ceramic material in the CAT, then took the biggest Hole-saw that fit in the opening, put the drill on hammer mode, and let it rip.

I kept the engine running so that everything would keep flying out as it was broken off.

after the hole-saw went trough, I took a breaker bar and broke everything up in there.

Then a quick Italian tune up while the muffler is still unplugged to get rid of all the chunks in the exhaust.

Hook everything back up and done.

Turbo spools so much faster now and im loving it.

Tools used:

Chunks that came out:
These are the ones i found, rest flew all over the parking lot after blowing them out.

Testing it and blowing the rest of the chunks out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnSYX1seVkc

This one i destroyed was ceramic core coated with palladium(currently at $815 per OZ) the cheap stuff comparing to Rhodium and Platinum, but there is some other metal wool that was in there that i cant figure out what it is, its not very malliable like the plattinum group, so i think its just steel... anyone have an idea how to test that?

if you scrap it, take it in, they have a thing there called a mini-sort (X-ray or Laser gun) Tells what the metal is.

The mini-sort is a $25k gun that any recycler worth his metal will have. It uses a nuclear source and when it is held up against a sample and the trigger is pulled it will tell you all of the components that make up the sample.

Scrap Value

So is it worth the trip? Knowing I don't know what is in mine do I want to make the effort?

Anybody know the Potential value range?

Thanks

I've heard of people buying cat's from the local junker for hundreds of dollars. Someone bought 2 or 4 of them off a Cadillac for $500. Just the Cats!

Not sure what ours are made of. I would at least check it out and report back to us . I tossed mine out not knowing better

I went to a metal recycler here in San Antonio they didn't have a mini-sort and they told me that they only buy full cat converters $5-$50. so i decided not to bother with it.
