r4 compressor working, sort of...

Got the a/c system working, sort of. Blows cold but the compressor doesnt sound like it will be around for long. R134 conversion previously done. System was empty. I have access to full a/c equipment and the knowledge to use it. Found no leaks under pressure or vac, probablty the shaft seal on the compressor is slowly leaking.

so the million dollar question is what does the majority of people around here do for R4 compressors? Anyone rebuilt one? parts are available. Or do you just go down to the parts store and pick up universal GM R4? are they all the same? New or remanufactured?

Check the belt tension per the FSM...
but do not exceed the recommended tightness.... you do not want excessive side pressure on the bearing...
