odd rumble 87TD on rapid deceleration

slowing quickly on downhill slopes or any rapid stopping, and the car sounds like the front brakes are grinding.
but the pads are perfect, and the rotor's are smooth. front and back.
the lower ball joints do show bad signs, but I fail to see how they would cause a grinding pulsing feeling...
perhaps the ABS is pulsing? I've felt many types of ABS pulsing, and it's not like any I've felt before...
the wheel has no play in the bearings, and smooth noise free spinning in the air...
I'm at a loss... I'll just start replacing the entire front end if I have to.
any 124 experts wanna chime in with this symptom?

I've never had pulsing on my 87, but it could be the ABS pump or system related. the ball joints will cause odd noises and vibrations as they go, thats what was wrong with mine

Are you sure the rotors are not warped? That would account for pulsing, but the steering wheel would shake too.
Is this a new problem? Some of the metallic pads are very coarse, or you get to a part in the pad that is defective/ high metallic

Mine's doing that a little today, I washed it and parked it last fall with the brakes wet.

it's just so odd.
normal braking, no issues.
nothing abnormal on cornering, or hills push REALLY hard on the brakes, and rrrrrrrrrrruuuughhhh. it's more of a sound than a feeling... you can feel it but it's nothing like the sound... arrgh. I'll likely pull everything off, and upgrade to the 94 front rotors...

Always a good choice.

As a note, if you didn't get the '94 heat shields, you can make a flat in the bulge that was to clear the old-style A-arm and it will clear the brake rotor fine. Then opening the clearance for the rotor around the OD will keep it from rubbing. I did this on mine before I had the correct heat shields.

Is it possible that it is the ABS and that the sensor or ring is dirty and not registering enough RPMs?

He should get an ABS light then and the ABS would be disabled. Sounds more like a rotor or loose lug-bolts.

Just to throw a bit off. What are the engine mounts like? Can you get the GRRRR accelerating in reverse?
