Where are we buying hoses???

For w123 cars specifically. Phil/Fastlane seems to only sell URO parts. Advance/Autozone/Rock Auto sells Gates and Dayco, but my understanding is that many of these are actually "cut to fit" and not properly designed.

I would trust Gates/Dayco/Goodyear if I could get the right parts. For some of the hoses, it seems that this may not be the case.

Is the dealer the only place to go for hoses? Does this mean $100 for what would otherwise be $20 in hoses?

Thanks!

There are other places.... but they're not allowed to be mentioned. If you know who Rusty is give him a call, if you don't know who he is ask someone.

I was in a bind for a lower radiator hose on the eve of Thanksgiving I got it from my mom's indy for $5 over the shelf price. They were nice enough to hunt down a Gates hose for me (I asked for the brand).

I try to support local businesses (Napa/Advance/Autozone) I think most hoses are shaped/fitted to specifications. Standard 2 inch hose but is heat formed to hold a specific shape. Upper/lower radiator hoses come to mind. Some are crazy 3 end hoses and are truly vehicle specific but are manufactured by 3rd party. It depends on what the parts guys can order and what you're willing to pay.

Not sure exactly you mean by properly designed. It's hose rubber reinforced with some type of material.
I'm not a purist I keep my vehicles running and safe. LOL

properly designed meaning not a generic flexible hose or a cut to fit... And the right ID.

Those are all national corporations, not local businesses. A local business would be "Bobs car parts"

Well if it helps the shop I went to was Curry's Auto in Chantilly, VA. They got me the Gates lower radiator hose for a 1984 300D and it looked exactly like the one I bought at the dealer and fit well.

I have had the URO Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses on my Car for almost 4 years with no issues except that one when on a tad tight.

Not to quibble with you, but the Napa franchise is exactly that - a franchise. In my (small) town, the store OWNER is at the counter at least 4 days a week. That, to me says Local Business, no matter what logo is on the sign. YMMV, but I like to support that kind of business model.

Edit, It helps that everyone there can look up a part without drooling on the counter.

True, and I try to support the ones that are run well....I just went to AZ last night for a custom belt for our 300E....its smog pump *fell off*. They had what I needed, a nice made in USA belt that worked perfectly.
