Chipped my CDI

After much research, I finally decided to install a Bully Dog "rapid power" chip in my 2005 E320CDI. All I can say is it took my awesome car and made it awesomer. I see a 10% improvement immediately in mileage (both on the car computer and my Scangauge II, as well as confirming accuracy at fillup). And the power increase is huge.

It clearly is only manipulating fuel rail pressure because that is the only hookup for the unit, but it does what it says.

The exhaust smell is improved too. .....To back up...I run strictly homemade BD. The 83SD has a great exhaust smell running BD...as many on the forum are aware. The CDI running BD has a much more pungent odor...to me it's still better than D2 exhaust, but not as pleasant as the 83. The CDI seems to have a less pungent odor with the chip.

Disclaimer...I have no ties to Bully Dog whatsoever.

odo reads 151k. The last 21k are strictly BD (with a small amount of HHO blended in the cold months), and the last 1k or so with the chip.

What mileage numbers are you seeing pre-chip and post-chipping the CDI?

I was seeing 28ish before, and now it's 30 or north in town, and 32 on the highway.

For that matter, waht is the power increase? I take it you're saying it was worth the money spent?

I don't have easy access to a dyno, so I can't say what the HP was before or after. But very unscientifically, I can say the difference is huge.

Running homemade BD, the increase in MPG will take me about 6 years to recoup the investment, but someone running $4.00 D2 might recoup in a year or two.

The fun factor alone made it worth my investment.
