85 300CD cruise control, and kick down?
Ok. You guys helped me with the shaking issue... how about this one....
Watcht he video, and you will see that the cruise control engages, and makes a clicking sound... Also, there is no "kickdown" when I put the peddle down. Yes, I have searched the forums and seen the solder the cruise control amp etc... but I also see that this voids me from being able to send if in to be repaired by that company that does it. I have the Amp from an 82 sitting here.. is it the same? It came out of that 83 parts car. I know it doesn't fit the 81, but how about the 85? The kickdown, what's the best thread for adjusting that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA6E2yoIQvk |

no help on the other things, but the kickdown should be a switch under your accelerator pedal.
pull up your floormats and look to see if it's connected, then take it out, and ohm it to see if it's working...

And after you check the kickdown switch, check your bowden cable. Mine was all the way in from the PO, when I backed it out a few turns, may 1/4 of the full range, I gained back proper shift points and kickdown ability.

Kickdown
Also remember that the kickdown circuit goes through the Klima relay. If Klima isn't working properly, kickdown won't work. Additionally, as previously mentioned, a mis-adjusted Bowden cable will prevent the accelerator pedal from pressing the kickdown switch.
If Klima is getting bad data from the tach or if Klima itself is damaged, it can think that engine RPM is close to maximum and will prevent kickdown from working. For kickdown to work, the kickdown switch, Klima and all its inputs, and the solenoid valve in the transmission must all be working correctly. Here's the wiring diagram. Jeremy ![]()

Thanks that will help. I checked the switch itself, the peddle was not even making contact with it, seems one of the tabs that holds it in place is missing. I raised it up a little using a couple quarters so it would make contact, but still not working. The switch itself looks cheap enough so I might as well get one and start from there. |

I'm beginning to think, instead of selling her (to me) I'm glad you decided to keep the old gal...

But regardless... It's almost a 30 year old car that's driven. There's going to be stuff that needs to be worked on no matter what kind of car it is etc. But keep an eye out, I drive over to lowes with it quite often. Last edited by ngarover; 04-01-2011 at 03:35 PM. |
