240 To 300 Differential swap

I am thinking about swaping an 81 240D differential into an 84 300DT, is this possible & is it a good idea?

That would be like using a 4 cylinder Toyota rear end on a Dodge diesel.

Yeah you can do it. But why would you want to go from a 3.07 to a 3.96??

It would kill your MPG on the highway and it would reduce your top speed dramatically.

Might be a good idea for drag racing or pulling stumps. Otherwise probably not.

Unless this is strictly a drag race car, bad idea. People here are most often interested in swapping a 3.07 for a 2.88 or sometimes something even taller.

240D rear is 3.69, not 3.96.
still a HUGE hit in mileage.
it'll really over use your motor on the highway, and DRONE you out of sanity in short order...
however, it'll really improve your 0-60 times.

No, No, you don't want to do that unless you plan to do a lot of heavy duty towing and then you could do better with a different vehicle.

That would be a great idea if you were doing local and slow mountain driving. Or inner city driving.

Otherwise.... Forget it.
