Supposedly compatible with r12 systems. Seems like a pretty good option.
It's a blend, so the gases will leak at different rates from the system, and you will see a gradual but not too slow degradation of the the cooling in your system (1 decent season, then it dropped off). At least that's been my experience with it. I went back to r12 on my other car, and will on this one this summer.

Just to recap, do what Vstech and others have said, clean the condenser and radiator if necessary with commercial coil cleaners. Made an 8 or so degree vent temp reduction for me. So far in the late spring.

Could you share the brand name of the product used? Where did you buy it?

Thanks!

You are saying all work equally well? Brand name and chemical composition do not matter?

well...

there are the sprays.

and there are the soaks,

there are acid, and non acid.

it really depends on what is on your coil, and if you can remove the coil for cleaning, or if it's staying in the car for the cleaning.
you would not want to spray an acid cleaner on the car... you'd stand too great a chance of having some get in the frame, and rust out from the inside...

That's why I asked for names. Does anyone have a type or brand that they prefer to use? I plan to pull my condensers and clean in and out.

I'd assumed the kind 'wildest' used works well and would be a good place to start looking. Googling gives a dozen options with no additional guidance.

Sorry for the delay, I was too lazy to walk out to the shop and read the label. I used 'Foam Plus' Foaming Coil Cleaner made by Specialty Chemical. I got it from my brother in law to clean the coils in my home a/c under the house, so it isn't too bad, but I would flush the condenser really well anyway. I don't know how readily available it is, and it cost me $10 to do the coil under the house and my car.

dieseldan44, what happened to the promise of a DIY write up? Did you ever finish your A/C conversion/repair? It's getting hot out!

2x that! time is here for me too!! i've got the new dash to put in, the evap to clean or condemn, pods and a compressor to replace

FL is muggy and I want to build the best AC system I can, within reason, been looking at (still need to find out more about) the whole double rciver dryer or accumulator concept,,,,,

Debating on if to go with the standard R4, (which they say is good for 4 to 5 years, heard it's more of a no sump type pump) or I've heard Stanadyne, (do they supposedly last longer who knows but 4-5 years sucks on a major accessory) so and but im going to hit whatever I put in with with ceramic treatment for extra slipperyness, but yeah,,,,,, dash and AC renovation on the books, stat-ish

Thumbs up

Need thoughts...

I am sick of the screw on fittings on my R12 cars. Is anyone using the modern quick connect fittings and still using R12? Seems like it would be fine... but, perhaps I am crazy.

what I mean is, the hoses on my diagnostic manifold have R12 quick connect ends. they snap onto R12 fittings, and release instantly.
they also hold refrigerant in the hoses...
