Anyone know if a cargo cover was/is available for the 123 wagon?

Yes, at least for the '85 TD. There's a "base" that attaches to the back of the rear seats with two hooks and locks. The base actually has two screens on retracters inside. One is a MB Tex cover that will unroll and hook on two attachment points just below the window on the rear gate. This extends quite far so you can open the liftgate with it attached. The second is a nylon net that you can pull up from the seatback to the headliner above the seats to act as a saftey barrier against things in the rear flying forward. If you're going to install one of these you'll need to add attachment points at the back of the seats, liftgate, and ceiling. I'd look around to find a car that has them so you can see where they go. I find the safety net very useful but we almost never use the rear cover, it's a bit big and doesn't look very good. Also the base, when attached won't let the third seat back go all the way up so if you use the extra seat much you'll want to leave the base off the car.
