Question WHERE TO BUY........

I need yall's input here please!

Part 1:
Ryan (our diesel mechanic) came in to work today on his day off and pulled & checked my injectors. I was informed that 3 tips are bad, and he said I would be best to buy a full set of 5 and new springs.
Where should I buy, and what brand / version of injector nozzles & springs is the best to buy for the 1983 300D turbodiesel?

Part 2:
I want to upgrade the turbo on this engine, what would be a "Next step up" turbo for this engine, and where would be the best place to buy it?
I have seen many turbo's for sale on E-Bay, but am very leery of them!

BTW: For any of you who have been following any of my posts, the valves are now set and the compression check came back good. Lowest was rear cylinder at 318 psi, highest was second cylinder from the front at 343 psi. Not too bad I think. IIRC, under something like 275 psi is when then you have a problem.

Thanks for any help!

Anyone who's tried Bozio or Monark nozzles raves about them.

Unless you've made other mods to your engine it's more likely held back from making more power by fuel limitations than air limitations. Do some research here before spending money on a turbo and not getting any worthwhile benefit - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/forumdisplay.php?f=100

I have Bosios, no reason to not do all 5. Even though two aren't "bad" they are probably getting tired, I'd do all 5. I did all 6 on my 300D.

Upgrading the turbo only does you good if you can push more fuel, post in the performance section for more info there.

Coyote, please put your car's year, model and maybe it's name in your tagline. Helps us know which car you're talking about.

I agree with the turbo sentiment. Not much if any benefit replacing the stock turbo unless it's in really bad shape.

In your post about getting the car, you said it has 418K, and the spedo was inop? that is not bad numbers for the miles on it.

I assume you are refering to the compression test. Yep. They were WAY higher than I expected. I am 100% convinced that the motor has had at the least a cylinder hone & re-ring job in the near past. Wish so bad I knew the exact history of the car. at the least, what took place over the past 7 years. But the last owner is dead, so that will have to remain a mistery.

As to the turbo upgrade, my turbo is wore out. You can grab the compressor turbine wheel and move it up/down left/right about 1/10th of an inch in any directions. Not sure if these turbos used bushings like the old AirResearch turbos did, or if they have ball bearings in them. Eather way, it's not good.

I am ok with sending the injector pump out for service if need be. No biggy. The good folks over at taylor diesel service give us a big discount on their service, so i should be able to have them go through the IP for around $400 + parts.

Sooooo, new injectors getting orderd monday, sending pump off for evaluation / rebuilding monday, getting new turbo unless one of my used allis-chalmers tractor turbos would work (they have no BOV), heck, this thing ort'a do 0-60 in under 16 seconds by the end of the month!

IF you have to get a replacement turbo, and you want to upgrade it, a SMALL variable vane turbo may be the ticket. give you quicker spools. ours take nearly 2000RPM to make any power. a vvt may cut that down a grand or so...
1/10th does not sound like much play. once the oil builds up, it's likely smooth. how much play does it have in/out?

A variable vane turbo... now there's an idea! Do you have a link for a supplier for one that'll fit the 300D with minor or no mods? Does Peachparts have this part available or can order?

See member C Sean Watts and ask about rebuilt and new Injectors. I believe also sells Injector parts.

Off topic: I just keep getting deeper & deeper into this thing. Looks like another money pit to me. I just hope it is one thats worthwhile sinking money into.
