W126 Shocks: Sachs-Boge or Bilstein?

Any significant preference?

I'm looking for the Touring / Comfort grade ride (soft yet firm, lol) so I don't think I want HD shocks. I think Sachs were installed at the factory.

If no noticeable difference I'd prefer to save the $ of Sachs over Bilstein and put it to some other maint. item.

Thanks in advance!

Stick with the Sachs. If it's a choice between them and the Bilstein comforts, there won't be a great difference.

Bil HDs are not as hard as people say. They ride fantastic on these cars and are what I install.

I have bilsteins HD and am perfectly comfortable. It doesn't ride like a sports car and doesn't float like a boat.

This is exactly how I feel about them, the ride is about perfect for the W126. Much more control than the OE shocks, it makes them sportier like the E23/E32 of the same era.

I found the Sachs-Boge satisfactory.

I'm told by a Bilsteins dealer that there is no longer a Bilstein Comfort shock only Standard and HD.
The Standard now is the same as the Comfort???????
Any info on this.
