I may be getting a gasser - Talk me out of it?

1993 300E 2.8. See my post over in the gasser discussion here for details on the car.

Have I lost my mind?

Any input appreciated

Uh, fellas, I think the pic is of Geoff's 190. The 124 is white. Still, I'd like to have a 124 gasser. One with two fewer doors, but.... I used to drive those cars a lot when I worked at the dealership many moons ago. FUN. This guy owned a 930 Porsche, a Donzi motor yacht, and a 300CE AMG. I got to go out to his house and pick the coupe up for service one time. Made quite an impression. Twenty years later I still think about that car. Fondly.

Jay.

Thanks Jay and thanks to everyone else - I have asked the current owner for some pics - we'll see if he gets them to me. Probably won't be able to pick the car up until late Aug - early Sept. And yes I am keeping the 190D - that is my diesel sipper for work.

I have had two gassers now. Must say, I prefer the m119 to the m103. I would pounce on a m104 because of the better power and mpg's. If you want a wagon there is a very nice looking '95 TE in my local CL for $2400. Wish I had the money.

Being one of those diesel-to-gasser converts, I have to say the w124 gassers are incredible machines. The diesels are cool but nothing matches the smoothness of the inline 6 gas engines IMO.

It takes alot of guts to post such blasphemy on this forum.... then to request our permission !!!? What are you? Certifiable?

I agree with the post below; do not expect an honest, logical response here.

The engine can be finicky....but its still worth it. My 300E is one of the greatest cars I've ever driven....smooooth, powerful, quiet....and relatively simple to repair.

Today I had a co-worker follow me to a get together after work, when we got there he asked if I had a V12 because he could barely keep up (in his ford). I was purposely driving slower so he could keep up!

Nothing sweeter than the sound of a M103 working its way to 6000rpm.....well, maybe a M116. The 420 is pretty awesome.

I love the 190E 2.6 and 300TE because they're such great cars on the road. Make sure the known problem areas have already been addressed, this goes with both diesel and gas engine potential car buys.

When my friend drove his 1995 S600 V12 to the Cars & Coffee meet in Irvine, CA during the wee hours of the morning, that made me realize what a V12 could really do on the highway.
