Late upshifts

Been searching forum, haven't found quite what I am looking for. 84 300d, pulled plug in tranny tonight bc 3 months ago when I changed filter and fluid I put too much in, dipstick showed over full Drained out 3 qts, put in 2.5, shows full but now won't upshift into 2nd until 3500 no matter how light on throttle, won't do 3 and 4 until it hits rdline, 4700. Always shifted hard, now slams gears at only at high rpm. Wonder it some junk fell down funnel and stuck somewhere it shouldn't, other thoughts? Would a flush help??

Adjust your bowden cable, it's the thing connecting the tranny to the "throttle" linkage on the engine. Screw the adjuster nut one way to lower the RPM shift point, screwing it the other way raises it. Done.

Thanks for the tip, but checked that already as I had that issue a year ago, first thing I looked at.

What else have you tried / tested to correct it this time?

Go and look beneath the accelerator pedal.

You will find a button switch beneath it. Find the plug end for this switch and disconnect the plug.

Drive the vehicle again and report back.

Checked vac lines, haven't put gauge on them. Since it started right after drain and fill I figured related, such as dirt getting in, hence my wandering about a flush.

Update, this morning, after sitting overnight all is good!? Looked at kickdown switch, wasn't stuck, so I left it alone and went for a drive. 12 miles or so, ran it up to 90, many stop and starts, many kickdown shifts, hard easy, it all shifted as usual. Mixed bag, happy it is working again but nervous it might act up again.
