HELP!!! Car Won't start in AM??
My '83 300D has developed a weird problem. It will not turn over at all the first thing in the morning for the past 2 days. I returned home from work yesterday and she started right up. Went out this am and turned the key....all interior lights illuminate as they should including the glow plug cycle light. I waited for the glow light to turn off and try to crank the car....nothing....no clicking. Any ideas on what I can check? I'm thinking that there may be some moisture buildup somewhere that could be affecting a switch or relay.
On a side note, I just replaced my master cylinder and booster as well as all of the hard lines, new tires. Did this last week. I drove the car last Friday with no problems. Any suggestions would really be appreciated!! Thanks

Try jumping terminals 1 and 3 in the plastic junction box on the right inner fender in front of the battery. If it starts that way, the problem lies in the ignition circuit itself and not in the starter. It could be a bad NSS or dirty contact in the ignition switch. You could also try jiggling the shifter or moving it into N to see if its the NSS.

Quote:
1. determine if directly applying voltage to the solenoid turns over the engine 2. determine if the starter will spin if the solenoid is bypassed That way you'll isolate if it is a starter/solenoid problem or 'farther upstream' with the key switch or transmission interlock. Glad you took my goofy comment for what it was. . |
